Room 1: Early Handmade Textiles

Examples of intricate textile artistry reflected in the form of embroidery, quilting, crocheted lace, and knitting can be seen in this exhibit. These everyday household items, beautified by individual artistic talent, have been handed down and treasured by generations of family members. They were sometimes given as gifts to family, friends, and neighbors.

It is a great tribute to women that so many fine works of art with beautiful designs and a high standard of artisanship were produced even when their manner of life was labor intensive and demanding.
